'Skylar had an infectious smile that would light up a room ' said family members in a final tribute. Last year she served as the Valedictorian at her Pre-K graduation and she aspired to be a 'pediatric dentist because she has a sweet tooth like her mother' family members said. She was an old soul, she listened to Anita Baker and Anthony Hamilton to fall asleep. Skylar had a competitive spirit like her dad, she loved gymnastics, soccer, singing and swimming.

Her teacher Ida Simpson said 'she could multiply and divide fractions. She understood history and politics. She would've been our first black female President. She was kind and concerned about her fellow classmates. She wouldn't just master her own assignments, she would get out of her seat to help others understand them too.'

Both her parents were First Responders. Her mother Lavondria Herbert served on the Detroit Police Department for 25 years and her father Eddie Herbert served on the Detroit Fire Department for 18 years.

Thousands watcher her homegoing service online as immediate family attended at church. Pastor Kevin Earley of the Metropolitan Church of God said, 'In just 5 years Skylar gave a lifetime of love.'

A Skylar Herbert Memorial Fund has been established. She was laid to rest at the Grand Lawn Cemetery in Michigan.
